Tuesday at the Witte (Pics Galore)

**HUGE PICTURE POST**
(about 70 total)

Tuesday afternoon the Witte museum's admission is free so the girls and I picked Mom up and us four girls ventured down. There were tons of people... it's the last week before school starts and the last FREE Tuesday before school starts and the museum was packed! At least lots of people are getting to enjoy the arts!!

We did pay extra to get into the dinosaur exhibit. There are life size replicas of dinosaurs as well as real fossils. It was fun to see....

I forgot my camera..of course.. so I had to take all of these pictures with my iPhone!!
Some of the dinosaurs were animated..moving with realy sounds... I
tried to record it but my computer won't let me upload them... I will have to do it from my phone either later tonight or tomorrow.

A life size dinosaur egg...
from an Oviraptor...
And how about some fossilized dung?

I caught him mid-movement...

The girls thought this one looked like a platypus... or a duck....
But it's a Hadrosaur....
Check out those teeth!!! This skull was HUGE!!
Imagine being chased by THAT!! Those teeth mean business!!!
This one was actually so long I had to take the pictures in two part..
The top half.....
And the bottom half...

I have video of these guys.. They had a fur type covering.....

And this one had fur around his claws....
He was a mean looking one.. you can see some of the fur here... this again was mid-movement...

There was a plaque there that said at first it was believed that the T-Rex had scaly skin... but later it was learned that they had a hairy, fur like coat...
And apparently some were found in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming... I didn't know that!!
These were some little guys. They reminded me of those bad little dinosaurs on Jurassic Park.

Because of the light I could not get a good picture of this guy. Or maybe because smart April left the camera at home!!!
This one was huge!!! It took several pictures to get his body.

Look at that back half... ginormous!!!

And outside was my favorite.. Triceratops.. He was so big he couldn't fit in the exhibit. He was also life size... enormous!!!!
CC said his eyes look like he had been drinking all night..lol... I think he's beautiful!
***MUMMIES***
Upstairs there was a mummy exhibit. It was so interesting. This is a replica of a person found in ancient Egypt in a hole. He/she was sooo tiny. This was no replica. She was the real deal.....
This is what the painting of her looked like on the wooden panel that actually covered her face.
Again, she was so tiny. Couldn't have been more than 4 1/2 feet tall...
I tried to get a shot of her face wrappings but it was difficult because of the painting that lay on top of her...but look at how elaborately she is wrapped....

her feet.....
These were some items found in tombs.....
From mummies we moved to Native American Indians...
This shows how some of the painting was done. The shells held the paint and the bone was the tool used....

This was interesting to read....

These are actually remnants of old mocassin shoes.....
An animal skin purse....
and Indian baby cradles...
one made of animal skin.......
and one made of wood.......

Then we entered the Royal Garden....
Every year during Fiesta, San Antonio has a huge parade and queens of different orders ride down the streets on beautifully decorated floats. Their dresses are amazing....
This entire room was dedicated to some of the dresses that had been donated to the museum.

They were just beautiful....
They really deserve a post of their own... but I'm just to tired tonight...

And I didn't have a good camera.....
Next time I promise to take better pictures....
The dresses deserve it... look at the beading and the work that went into the making of this!

I did photograph more dresses, these here a just a couple. The other dresses will be posted in another post.
These chairs were in the Handmade in Texas section.
I just can't help it... I LOVE them!!!
There were even little tiny chairs for children....
We headed downstairs and outside.
There are several old homes there. This is the log cabin.
It was two rooms with an open corridor in the middle. The room to your right had this window and .... this fireplace. The room was dark but they had an electric lamp on one side of the mantle so again it was hard to get a good picture.

The room to the left was just a big room with one long table in it.
There were a couple of other log cabins and an artist's studio from the early 1900's, but we were sooooo hot and tired I didn't want to even take a picture of them.
I did take a photo of this fireplace. I LOVE fireplaces, espeically old ones like this. The original family that lived on this property must have had this built in their garden or something for outdoor entertainment. The San Antonio River is just beyond the wall....
With all of these other pictures I felt I needed to get some pictures of us. We didn't take any inside where it was air conditioned.
So here we are outside, melting from the heat.
See the fireplace behind us?
And of course CC looking like the heat doesn't effect her at all!!!

We had a good time together. It wasn't a planned trip. I just remembered it was Tuesday and it was free so I called Mom and convinced her to go. We ended up having a really good time together...hot but good!
This morning Papa Bear and I ran some errands. We didn't get to eat breakfast so we took a little break and had lunch at the Thai restaurant that is close to my old job. It was soooo good.... I had my lightly battered eggplant with tofu and Papa Bear had Thai noodles with chicken. The food is AMAZING there!!!
Tomorrow I am supposed to go to my first homeschool meetup at the park. I've never been before because I have always been working. I am so excited to finally get to go. The only downfall is that it's from 11-1....the hottest part of the day. This big girl doesn't do good in the heat! But it will be good for Lena to get out and play and make new friends and I think it will totally be worth it!
