We absolutely LOVED it!!!!
"You will never have to touch a germy soap pump again!"

Pink Saturday - Antique Mirror

It's time for another Pink Saturday with Beverly! You can always hop over to Beverly's blog to see more wonderful pinks!!
Today I am showing an antique mirror that was given to me many, many years ago when I was a little girl.
I originally did a post on this around a year ago. I thought this would be a great time to bring it out again and see if I can get some info on it.
The lady who gave this mirror to me was an old lady from our church named Minniola Adams. Everyone called her Minnie. I called her grandma. She wasn't my real grandmother but she cared for me when I was young and my mom worked.
I was sick alot when I was little and Minnie was always at the hospital with me, playing card games with me....she was wonderful! Minnie died from a blood infection many years ago and I miss her still today. She left me this mirror and I have held it so close to me.
I have questions though...how old is it? What are it's origins? Just any history about it would be wonderful!
The metal is almost brass like..it's a little heavy. The back of the mirror has a floral motif cross stitch or embroidery. It's covered by glass.
The details are so delicate and intricate. I don't think it was a mass produced item but I don't know.

It measures about four inches long.
If anyone has any information about it I would greatly appreciate it! I don't care what it's worth...that does not matter to me. I would just like to know how old it is.
So that's my Pink Saturday post....

Miscellany Monday..

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

Ahhh...it's Monday.. which means it's Miscellany Monday. You can join along here.

{1} I am finally learning how to make blog buttons. It's still taking me some time, ok, an hour or so, but it's fun. And I feel sooooo productive once the button is completed!

{2} I seriously HATE the way some people drive. You don't know how many times I have wanted to THROW a drivers handbook at people!

----> [a] BLINKERS - they are on a car for a reason! USE THEM!! I am not a mind reader. I don't know that you want in my lane or that you are turning unless you... USE YOUR BLINKERS!!!

--->[b] YIELD - yield signs are also there for a reason. FOR YOU TO YIELD...to oncoming traffic, exiting traffic..whatever the situation may be. I DO NOT have to yield to YOU if YOU have the sign. And if (which the case appears to be) you don't know what the "yield" sign means, then go pick up the drivers handbook..it's free OR go home and research it! And please...PLEASE don't look at me like I'm the crazy one because I won't stop for you who has the yield sign!
Italic
--->[c] CELL PHONES- it has come to my attention that some people are just not apt enough to drive AND talk on their phones at the same time. I am not talking about texting here... that should not be done by the driver at all!! But talking on the phone..oh my!! Why do people go in the fast lane, drive all of 35 mph and talk on the phone. I have actually witnessed people hang up and then step on the gas!! They swerve into my lane, brake for no reason and drive waaayyyy too slow! Why? If you are not capable of doing both, please...pull over and park somewhere. See, the thing is...the other people on the road, the ones actually DRIVING have some where to go, something to do. If you are not smart enough to talk AND drive, then pick one! Just ONE!

{3} I bought all these crape myrtle trees and still have not planted them. They aren't looking too good and I feel bad. Tomorrow I don't have much on the agenda and I will be planting them tomorrow. I honestly haven't felt like going out there and digging the holes.....

{4} This is the month that we focus on Breast Cancer. Not that any other month the focus is less, but October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. My grandmother died from breast cancer. It was spread through her entire body... actually found in her uterus. She never had any exams or tests done which probably would have extended her life if she would have done it. In honor of Breast Cancer, Helzberg Diamonds is selling these beautiful pink cultured pearl bracelets. A very generous portion goes to breast cancer research! My husband is a contract jeweler for the company and brought home one for me, our girls and my mother in honor of her mother who passed away. He also brought one home for me to giveaway on my blog! If you would like to be entered in the giveaway which ends October 23, simply leave a comment on the giveaway post. You can enter as many times as you like. No strings attached!

Show Us Your Life - Kitchens

Today at Kelly's Korner she is hosting Show Us Your Life - Kitchens!
Now my kitchen is NOT big nor is it fancy with all the extras, but it is where I spend ALOT of my time, especially now since I am no longer working! We are planning on doing a major kitchen remodel sometime in the beginning of next year, but for now, this is my kitchen!

Our breakfast area. The plates on the wall are Bradford Exchange Russian fairytale plates. I HATE that chandelier. It came with the house and is one of the first things I cannot wait to change!
The actual kitchen....so small! It's hard for more than two people to be in there. Our previous house had a kitchen the size of my living room here. But..it's ok. We make it work!
Russian trays on the entry to the breakfast area. They are all handpainted and almost all my Russian items were purchased on eBay.

My plates! Each one tells a different fairy tale. There are more to the collection but I have no where to put anymore so I finally stopped buying them!

The Snowmaiden, middle plate left side, is my absolute favorite!

My mother-in-law gave me these roosters. I love roosters in the kitchen.
My aprons....
Russian khokhloma apron holder.
My husband brought this huge candle home one day. It smells so good!! And it burns forever! The little bowl hold Russian candies. (In case you're wondering, my husband is Russian. But, I've had a fascination with Russia loooooong before I met him!)Russian cutting boards... I've actually had to use them a time or two!
My husbands friends wife who is also Russian was bidding on this cutting board set when I was. I won, obviously. You should have seen her face when she came over and saw it hanging on my wall!

One of my first Russian cutting board purchases!

This is my favorite cutting board set by far!!
These khokhloma trays were given to me by our friend Svetlana when she came to visit us from Russia.

She also gave me this clock.

This trio of trays hang above my pantry door.

I love, love, love my Keurig! I cannot say enough kind words about it! I LOVE it!!! My sister gave me the tealight candle teapot for Christmas one year. I love it!

It drives me nuts when the knife block isn't complete! I'm keeping it real here. This is what is on my bread box....a K-pod set of green tea, recipe box, cookbook and cookies. I bought the bread box at a garage sale for $5! I love it!!!
Since my kitchen is so small things like my blender and crockpot have to live on the cabinets. More cabinet space is something we will definitely be implementing!

The top of my refrigerator is a mess! This is one thing I have on my to-do list since I'm no longer working. I have done my closet, Lena's room AND closet and the laundry room....it's coming along, slowly but surely!
These are my decorations above my cabinets. Mostly teapots (which I love! I'm sure it has something to do with Alice in Wonderland!) and Russian tea cozies and khokhloma items.
My Russian tea cozies...love them!

These are my many cookbooks in the cabinet above my stove. It's an addiction. I can't stop buying them!!
A handwritten recipe for homemade pie crust given to me by my mother that was given to her from her father in law! It is superb! CC always asks me to make her just the crust and let her eat it!
The picture in the corner Lena drew. It's supposed to be me but it has blue eyes!
These blue figurines are called gzhel. They are also Russian and very collectible. I have only a few but you can find entire tea sets made of gzhel.

I hope you enjoyed my kitchen tour. It's not much but it's where you can find any one of us at any given time! I can't wait to stop by and visit the other kitchens! Kitchens make or break the house for me...that's why I can't wait to redo ours!!
