Dirty Laundry

Charlie hates my cell phone and the remote. Anytime either one is close to him he fights and bites it. Of course the girls pick on him relentlessly.

YouTube Video

Anyway after my interview with Southwest I had to go see Ms. Lassen. She is the sweetest thing. She's 83, from Denmark, has lived a full and happy life and has the most amazing stories. Today she told me about her grandfather. He was in the Danish Navy and drove a handsome (sp?) taxi in France. Something spooked the horse and it reared up sending a spike through his midsection. It just happens that the princess of Denmark who was French but married a Danish prince was in town visiting her parents. She got word of the Danish naval officer was injured and she personally visited him in the hospital the day after his accident. He hadn't even been cleaned up. As Ms. Lassen said "The French are known for fashion, not cleanliness." So this princess arranged for Ms. Lassen's grandfather to be sent to Denmark and receive the nest care. Unfortunately he died three months later leaving behind a 26 yr old widow with three kids under five. Now this princess had a brother who was supposedly very good looking. He liked to visit hid sister in Denmark because, as she said "Danish girls were easy." The princess' brother ended up getting some Danish girl pregnant. His sister made sure the baby was adopted by a good honorable wealthy family. The little girl that was adopted ended up being Ms. Lassen's mother in law. She said Anna was sent to the best school and went to a finishing school in Belgium. She said she could hand make lace and was a true lady in every sense of the word. It was very interesting. And this is Ms. Lassen's sweet cat, Miss Lily Bloodsworth.

Onto another subject....dirty laundry. HOW, really HOW do my kids make clothes so dirty so fast? This is my laundry after not washing for two days. TWO DAYS!!!

I saw a Terry cloth wrap in there that Lena literally wore fresh from the laundry from her restroom to her bedroom. A whole ten feet away and now BOOM... All of a sudden it's dirty again. This drives me nuts. There is no stop to laundry. NONE!! Ugh! I feel like a non-stop laundry machine. I can NEVER get caught up. Never.
When we got back from Austin Papa Bear had the table set and had grilled out ribs and sausages. It was so nice and thoughtful of him. I just LOVE my Papa Bear. Right now I'm laying on the couch watching "The Reef" with CC. I am so ready to kick my feet up and rest!

What A Wednesday!!!.

Wow!! This Wednesday started off just plain WILD!! Yesterday the girls and I went to Austin and Papa Bear went to play cards with his friend. It was late when I got home so we snacked a bit, the girls went to bed and I went to catch up on some blogs. Papa Bear called me and told me the car died on him on the way home. For two hours we tried all we could and my poor baby just wouldn't start! She has over 250k miles, but I love her. THEN when we came home and I was rushing inside to get some things and the car door pushed hard against my long long pinkie nail and cracked it right in half, mid pink bed. It hurts like something you can't believe!!

I have been so hungry for something different. I looked up a few recipes for Turkey Burgers and found a really good simple one. I tried it yesterday and it turned out sooo good!

I think I am completely off of beef burgers. This turkey was amazing! I topped it with sliced avocado and smoked Gouda cheese. It was delicious!
Instead of mayo I put this Kraft's Greek Goddess on my burger buns. It was amazing. This dressing totally took the turkey burger to new heights!

Today two of my sweet squirrel friends came to visit. This one relaxed on the back patio and the bigger, badder one was playing in my rose garden. This is one battle I can't win. I just have had to learn to accept them and their bad habits!

I eyed this plate set at Target today. I really, really like it. I showed this picture to CC and wrinkled her nose and said, "Ewww, no!" I know there is no point even showing Emil because he will side with her. But I really, really like it!

And today CC and I were going to the meeting I realized I wore flip-flops out! We made a quick stop and I picked up these cute wedges....

They are super cute and super comfortable! AND they were only $13!! You CAN'T beat that!
I love the open toe design...

Also today I had a phone interview with Southwest Airlines. Tomorrow I go in for a face to face interview. I am not too sure about the position. The pay is nothing to get excited about. The hours are horrendous, mandatory overtime, on call all day and all weekend and holidays. The only perk so far is free flights for you and your immediate family. BUT with all that overtime please tell me when I will be available to fly anywhere!! I am not getting my hopes up. They were up but after the phone interview were shot right down. I'm going to the Face to Face interview tomorrow to get more information and ask a few questions. Right now I feel like what happens will happen. I can just pray and hope to see the right answer.

I can't believe June is almost over. This is unbelievable!! Where has the month gone? Time is flying too fast! But on the bright side, I guess each day we are closer to winter and can get out of these 100+ degree days!!

Lightening, Pizza, Burgers & Bows

Last Wednesday night we received some MUCH needed rain. Lena and Ari were asleep but CC, Emil and I were still up. First we heard a light drizzle and then it started hitting in the fireplace. We didn't really expect it to do much more. We were wrong! It started thundering and lightening like crazy. Our wonderful neighbor had his stupid bug zapper on and it kept making these weird noises and we worried that it might short out with all the rain. Then we heard this massive "BOOM" and I saw a reddish/orange flash from one side of the house to the other. I completely expected the lights to go out but the didn't. We just knew it was Joe's bug zapper. A few minutes later CC told me there were firetrucks outside.

It turns out that a 43,000 watt bolt his my neighbor Janie's chimney cap two houses down from mine. It traveled down her chimney, through her foundation and exited by her water heater. Poor Janie. She was all alone when it happen. She slipped and fell in the garage. She will have to be out of her house for a couple of months while all her pipes and plumbing is repaired. I was talking with her the other morning and we both agreed that she was so blessed to not have anything worse happen, she could not have a house, or worse yet, not even be here!

Thursday we loaded the girls up and took them to Incredible Pizza to eat and play. Mom also took the girls to see Judy Moody. They LOVED it!

Of course Ari was stuck like glue to CC. And if you remember THIS post, we sat at the same booth, only this time it was bolted to the wall!!

I love the diner room. I love the oldies music they play there. I love that we can just sit and talk and laugh and drink coffee. We always have a great time when we go!

The girls wanted to go to the arcade. I never realized how big it was. It's huge! They have bumper cars, a race track, bowling, skee ball, you name it! The girls were so excited to race! They might not look like it here.......

but they sure do here!

Lena won first place in the race. Here she is with her black ribbon!

It was Thursday after pizza that we took Ari with us to Austin and she went wild!

Friday we stayed in much of the day. It was hot, sticky and humid. Friday afternoon Papa Bear took us girls to Chester's Hamburgers for dinner.

This might be my favorite photo of Lena and Emil.

They seriously have THE BEST burgers and fries! Seriously!

Ari definitely enjoyed herself. After her chili dog she helped herself to my burger!

I LOVE the decor in Chesters. Near the door, that blue machine is an old five cent candy machine. It's too cute!

Saturday I took Ari to the mall. She had been wanting to go. She begged her mom for highlights but her mom said no. So she found a blue clip in extension at Hot Topic that she fell in love with. I snapped this photo of her wearing it later in the day at the grocery store.

I also took her to Homestead Handcrafts, one of my favorite places to shop! I fell in love with this cute sign. It was right by the front door and I am thinking I need to go back and buy it and hang it above my shoes in my closet! HA!

Ari fell in love with the bow section..... I wish my girls were still into bows. It is a sad, sad day when they outgrow them!

Saturday evening Emil grilled out some steaks for us. One steak is from Costco the other from a local grocer, H-E-B, can you tell why we usually buy our steaks from Costco?

Sunday after Austin our friends Nic and Gina invited us to their pool. I felt so bad because Ari had been looking forward to swimming but she went home with Mom after church and it was too late to go get her. We sat by the pool and chatted. It was so nice and relaxing. Their pool is just beautiful! They have a splash park and two lazy rivers.... so nice! As we were getting out we saw a frog in the water. It kept trying to jump out but had nothing to grab onto. CC hopped back in and helped the froggie out with her shoe!

And today Ari went home. This was one last snap shot of her and Mom before she left.

I miss the little stinker already. I told her I was going to keep her and name her Sarah. She loved it!! She said she will be back before school starts. I sure hope so because I feel like we didn't get to do enough together.

Today the girls and I cleaned like crazy. I mean we really cleaned up and down. We moved things around in the garage. Cleaned out the animal eating area, swept, mopped, washed dishes, organized shoes and shoe racks, washed endless amounts of clothes, cooked dinner.... I am exhausted. After we went for our evening walk I took a hot shower and then the girls and I laid on the couch and watched Hocus Pocus. It was a perfect ending to a fast paced day!

Rainbow Cupcakes - Rainbow Cupcakes

I found this fun and easy recipe for Rainbow Cupcakes on another blog and thought it would be so fun for the girls to try to make it. They were so excited!

And since I haven't posted a Pink Saturday post in so very long, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to link up.

You can always visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound to see more pink posts!

These two were my main helpers, my sweet Lena (black shirt) and my sweet niece Arianna (pink shirt). They took turns cracking the eggs, pouring the oil and water and mixing.

After following the package directions on a box of white cake mix we added food coloring to make the colors we wanted for our cupcakes. The blog on which I found this recipe calls for six colors. I only wanted to do four.

After lining the cupcake pan with paper linings, I spooned one large spoonful of batter into each cup. With the back of my spoon I made sure the newest layer completely covered the previous color. Once the cups were about 3/4 full I put them in the oven. When they came out they looked like this.

I thought it would be fun to let the girls decorate the cupcakes how they wanted. So I bought these two sprinkles. Not a lot of options for them, but they made do!

I poured a some of each bottle on a little plate to make decorating a bit easier and not as messy!

We used cream cheese frosting. CC got creative and put her frosting in a ziplock bag, snipped off the end and made this cutie.

Hers was definitely the best looking! Ha!

But we were going for the fun of it. The girls had a blast rolling their frosted cupcakes in the plates of sprinkles.

Something so simple gave them so much joy!

They looked so pretty all decorated up on the outside......

And once we bit into them, they were so so pretty on the inside!

Simple, easy and fun. And I think we may have made some memories that evening that these girls will never forget!
